
Census to Enumerate Castes in Ladakh and Snow-Bound Areas from September 1
On Monday, Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner, notified that the second phase of the ongoing census for Ladakh and snow-bound areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will take place from September 1 to 30. Self-enumeration is available from August 17 to 31, with house-to-house visits following. The reference date for data collection is October 1, 2026. This phase includes caste enumeration, as decided by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2022.
