Mattathur political drama deepens as suspended Congress members hit back
Tessy Thomas and T.M. Chandran, former general secretary of the District Congress Committee (DCC), denied allegations that they defected to the BJP in the Mattathur grama panchayat president election. They claimed a conspiracy by the CPI(M) to cover up corruption was behind the alleged mass defection and that Mr. Ouseph, a Congress member, was bought off. The DCC suspended Chandran, Kalluparambil and 10 ward members for violating party guidelines and engineering "alleged" mass defection. They also suspended Nidheesh A.M. and Sabetta Varghese for contesting the president and vice-president posts in Chovannur grama panchayat.
