CBI arrest in a politically motivated murder raises concerns about justice and safety.
The CBI arrested Sagar and Sahib Sonkar, former Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers who joined the BJP before the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, in connection with Chandranath Rath's murder. Rath, an aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead on May 6, two days after election results showed a BJP victory. The court remanded both men to seven days of CBI custody.
