CBI takes over two-year-old Armstrong murder case after Supreme Court stay
Transfer of a murder case to CBI after two years raises concerns about initial investigation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) formally took over the two-year-old investigation into the 2024 murder of K. Armstrong, Bahujan Samaj Party’s Tamil Nadu president, after a Madras High Court order and subsequent legal proceedings. The case was initially investigated by Greater Chennai Police but transferred to the CBI following a petition from Armstrong's brother K. Immanuel. Legal challenges delayed the transfer until July 31, 2026, when the Supreme Court stayed the quashing of the chargesheet while allowing the probe transfer. One prime suspect, K. Thiruvengadam, was killed in an alleged encounter after escaping custody.
