Assam CM: 25% of Flood-Hit Areas Still Inaccessible After Week, 61 Dead

On July 24, 2026, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam's Chief Minister, stated that 25% of flood-hit areas in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts remained inaccessible after a week. The deluge since mid-June has killed 61 people, with over 11 lakh affected across more than 2,000 villages; 7.05 lakh are displaced in 856 villages of 12 districts. ASDMA reported 14 new deaths on July 24. The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing relief efforts by the Indian Army and Air Force, with a Centre team visiting on July 25 to assess damages.
