BJP leader V.V. Rajesh sworn in as Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram
V.V. Rajesh, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was sworn in as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, marking the first time the party has taken power in a Kerala Corporation. He received 51 votes, including one from Independent councillor M. Radhakrishnan, while the Left Democratic Front's candidate R.P. Sivaji secured 29 votes and the Congress-led United Democratic Front's K.S. Sabarinadhan received only 17 votes. The BJP won 50 out of 101 seats in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, ending over four decades of LDF rule.
