Kannada groups urge Karnataka to block Maharashtra’s new Krishna river dam plan
Kannada organisations have urged the Karnataka government to object to Maharashtra's plan to build a new reservoir on the Krishna river, claiming it would reduce water discharge into Karnataka. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced administrative sanction for the dam in Ichalkaranji recently. The dam will utilize 4 tmcft of water from the Krishna river, reducing inflow into Karnataka's Hippargi barrage and Almatti dam. Ashok Chandargi, convenor of the central committee of Kannada organisations, stated this violates inter-State river water-sharing principles in a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
