Floods and rain-induced landslips in Assam and Meghalaya claimed six lives over the last 48 hours, raising the death toll since late June to at least 25. In Assam, five people died on July 20, affecting 3.63 lakh people across 16 districts. Five rivers exceeded danger levels, with Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat worst hit. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed officials to ensure food supplies and coordinate rescue efforts. The Northeast Frontier Railway operations were affected in Simaluguri due to flooding. In Meghalaya, a child died in a landslip, cutting off road links. Nagaland reported nine deaths from landslips; Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited Mon district to assess conditions. More rainfall is expected over the next few days.
