On July 18, G R Markendiyan, a DMK MLA, made defamatory and threatening remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay at a public meeting. He was arrested following a complaint filed by a TVK functionary. DMK supporters protested the arrest, and Markendiyan is being questioned at Tuticorin SP office. Earlier this month, Tiruchendur MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan faced similar charges but was released on bail.
