Parliament Monsoon Session Begins Without Women’s Reservation Bill
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 20, 2026, and will end on August 13. On April 17, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, aimed at redistributing Lok Sabha seats based on the 2011 Census and implementing women’s reservation, was defeated with 298 votes in favor out of 528 present, failing to achieve the required two-thirds majority. Despite speculation that it could be revived due to changes in the Lok Sabha composition following splits in Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena, the government has not included these bills in the preliminary agenda for the session.
