At least 16 people died due to rain-related incidents in northern and eastern India on Sunday, with Jammu and Kashmir hit hardest by landslides and floods that killed at least 11 people. The Amarnath Yatra was suspended in Pahalgam and Baltal amid heavy rains and flood warnings. In Uttarakhand, two died from lightning strikes, while Nagaland reported three deaths due to flash floods. Uttarakhand issued red and orange alerts for several districts, with landslides blocking 84 roads including national highways. The India Meteorological Department forecast active monsoon conditions in north, east, and northeast India for the next 6-7 days, predicting subdued rainfall over west-central and south Peninsular India.
