Tamil Nadu Chief Announces Dual Celebrations for November 1 and July 18
On Saturday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced the State would celebrate both November 1 and July 18 to mark historical milestones. Earlier, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss had requested celebrating only November 1 as Tamil Nadu Day. However, after DMK, led by former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, took power in 2021, they changed the observance to July 18 following representations from political parties and scholars who argued that November 1 was not appropriate due to State reorganization. Mr. Stalin declared November 1 as Linguistic Martyrs’ Day instead. Published - July 19, 2026.
