Custodial deaths are a serious human rights issue and should not be treated as routine.
On Saturday, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, AIADMK general secretary, criticized the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government for its approach in negotiating solatium payments to families of two persons who died in custody. He advised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay not to adopt a "hands-off" governance style and reviewed AIADMK's performance in several districts, announcing a district-wise review by the Amma Peravai unit starting July 25 until April 17, 2027.
