DMK MPs Urge BJP to Form Tribunal Over Mekedatu Dispute, Demand Cauvery Water Release
On Thursday, DMK MPs urged the BJP-led Union government to form a tribunal for resolving the dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over Mekedatu reservoir construction. They also demanded Karnataka release Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water as per the final award by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. A virtual meeting, attended by party president M.K. Stalin, adopted resolutions highlighting Karnataka's non-compliance and resultant hardships for farmers in Tamil Nadu. The DMK claimed it had stopped Karnataka from constructing the dam through interventions with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. MPs vowed to raise issues concerning Tamil Nadu in Parliament.
