
Chennai Police Question Journalist, Seize Phone in Rs 35 Crore Bribery Row
Alleged bribery and conspiracy to destabilize a democratically elected government is a serious threat.
Chennai Police are investigating Project Meghalaya, an alleged conspiracy to bribe TVK MLAs and topple the government. N Elaiyaraja, a TVK MLA, claimed he was offered Rs 35 crore by YouTuber Thirunavukkarasu to defy his party whip during assembly voting. A senior journalist with Puthiya Thalaimurai was questioned and had his phone seized for alleged links with Thirunavukkarasu. Nine people have been arrested, including former DMK minister Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok. The Chennai Press Club criticized the police action as an attempt to suppress press freedom.
