
Surat SMC Pumps 1.1 Billion Litres, Fills 400 Olympic Pools in Flood Crisis
Kamal Saiyed reported that Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) pumped out over 1.1 billion litres of water from flooded basements in three days following heavy rains on July 7, which filled 400 Olympic-size pools. The floods inundated 430 locations and caused at least 34 deaths. SMC conducted health camps where 991 people were diagnosed with skin diseases due to exposure to contaminated water. Cleaning operations continued in affected areas like Varachha and Udhna.
