ECI Examines Curbs on Political Campaigns Targeting Children in Tamil Nadu Elections

On July 14, 2026, the Election Commission of India (ECI) told the Madras High Court that there is no presumption of children influencing voter behavior in Tamil Nadu's Legislative Assembly elections since voters are adults protected by law. However, considering social media age, the ECI will examine restrictions on political campaigns targeting children and may issue guidelines if necessary. The court was also informed about preventive measures against cash distribution during elections, including seizure of ₹599.24 crore. The judges adjourned a public interest litigation petition filed by S. Vasuki for a week.
