On July 14, Ajay Rai, president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, accused the BJP government and leaders Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath of failing to address embezzlement at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Rai demanded an independent investigation but criticized the government for focusing on media accusations instead. Eight individuals were arrested over alleged thefts, sent to judicial custody until July 27.
