Former Corporator Ramesh Mhatre Sent to Custody for Assaulting Woman Doctor
Abuse of power by a former elected official against a healthcare worker is a serious concern.
On July 11, Ramesh Mhatre, a former Shiv Sena (Shinde group) Corporator, was sent to four days of police custody by a sessions court in Thane district after assaulting a woman doctor at Shastrinagar hospital in Dombivli. Mr. Mhatre had evaded arrest by claiming chest pain and admitting himself to CPR Hospital but was declared fit for custody post-medical examination. The Indian Medical Association welcomed the decision, calling for stricter laws against attacks on medical professionals.
