Woman and Husband Seek Police Protection Over Inter-Faith Marriage Threats
Interfaith couple faces threats and police action due to their marriage.
In March 2025, a woman from a tribal community in Madhya Pradesh and her 26-year-old husband sought police protection in Kerala after facing threats over their inter-faith marriage. The Kerala High Court initially granted them protection but vacated the order last month due to inability to locate them. Police in Madhya Pradesh are pursuing the husband on charges of kidnapping a minor, while Hindutva groups in Kerala also threaten them. The woman claims she is 18, but her father disputes this, alleging forgery and seeking her return. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is investigating and has recommended filing additional charges against the husband.
