India Launches Campaign for UNSC Seat in 2028-29

On July 13, 2026, S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, launched the country’s campaign for a non-permanent seat at the UNSC for 2028–29 and emphasized India’s commitment to global peace, equity, and reform during an event at UN headquarters attended by diplomats. He highlighted issues like terrorism, climate action, and maritime security. Elections are scheduled for June 2027 with India competing against Tajikistan. Jaishankar will meet Antonio Guterres later that day and attend the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting in Brussels from July 14-15.
