UK government considers emergency law to deport Shabir Ahmed to Pakistan

Labour is considering bringing emergency legislation to deport Shabir Ahmed, a 73-year-old Pakistani man convicted of grooming vulnerable white girls in Rochdale. Ahmed, who served 14 years of a 22-year sentence for 30 child rape offences, was released last week despite being stripped of his British citizenship in 2016 due to Section 7 of the Immigration Act 1971. Alex Norris, minister for border security and asylum, stated that all options are on the table, including proposals by the Conservatives to remove sections of the act granting protection from deportation to Commonwealth citizens. Norris also said he would work closely with the Pakistani government to ensure Ahmed's deportation.
