A 55-year-old man, Aslam Esaf Shaikh, died after falling into an uncovered manhole in Mumbai during heavy rain. The incident occurred on Khairani Road and was caused by maintenance work being carried out by a private contractor. The BMC has suspended four officials, including the Assistant Commissioner of L Ward, and filed a case against the contractor for homicide. Mayor Ritu Tawde announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh to Shaikh's family. Heavy rain continued in Mumbai on Thursday, leading to waterlogging and disruptions to local train services.
