An IPS officer accepting bribes to influence a CBI case is a serious abuse of power.
A 2012-batch IPS officer, Deepak Gahlawat, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore in connection with the Puducherry counterfeit medicine racket. The CBI has registered a fresh case against N Raja alias Valliappan alias Rajasekhar, who is accused of orchestrating the racket. Gahlawat allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore from Raja and had already received Rs 1 crore through hawala transactions. The court granted Gahlawat's custodial interrogation for one day while the CBI investigates his role in the case.
