Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party president, sparked controversy in June 2026 by alleging that crores of rupees from donations to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya were missing. Following public outcry and a demand for investigation, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 13th to address the allegations. The case has been under scrutiny since June 7th, 2026.
