Ram temple ‘fraud’: SIT finds blatant SOP violations
Abuse of power and potential financial fraud in a religious institution are serious concerns.
An investigation into alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya has revealed major lapses in donation management procedures. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) found that Ramashankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav, a former driver of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary, held keys to several 'hundis' and violated standard operating procedures (SOPs). The SIT also discovered that CCTV footage was retained for only 45 days instead of 180 days, and donation counting staff were not properly screened. Eight individuals associated with the counting process have been arrested, and nearly ₹80 lakh in cash has been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
