Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, two officials of the Ayodhya Ram Temple trust, resigned on moral grounds following an investigation into alleged theft from donation boxes. An interim report by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) revealed that eight individuals were involved in siphoning funds totaling around Rs 7-7.5 crore. The suspects, including six temple staff who counted cash, allegedly used various methods to steal money, such as covering the CCTV camera and inserting extra notes into bundles. The SIT has also uncovered discrepancies between the number of donation boxes and records, inadequate CCTV coverage, and issues with counting record maintenance.
