Supreme Court rules former inmate cannot sue prison guards who cut his dreadlocks

The US Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that a former Louisiana inmate, Damon Landor, cannot sue prison guards for forcibly shaving his dreadlocks in violation of his Rastafarian faith. The court stated that the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) does not apply to individual officials' liability under federal law, as Congress did not intend for it to do so when passing the act in 2000. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the majority opinion, stating that RLUIPA does not allow for legal challenges against individual officials.
