The Karnataka High Court ruled that the arrest of three directors of online gaming company Gameskraft in a money laundering case was illegal. The court stated that arrests must be based on new material or conduct, not allegations that remain unchanged. Justice M Nagaprasanna emphasized that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cannot rely on stale material to justify arrests and that arrest should be a last resort after attempts at cooperation through summons under Section 50 of the PMLA Act. The court ordered the immediate release of the three directors, Deepak Singh, Prithvi Raj Singh, and Vikas Taneja, who were arrested on May 8th based on allegations of cheating, fraud, and other offenses. The court also noted that a bail application filed by the petitioners should not prevent it from reviewing the legality of their arrest.
