Foreign Ministers meet ahead of PM Modi’s Indonesia visit

Jaishankar and his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono, met to discuss the full spectrum of bilateral relations during an 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission meeting in Jakarta on June 7, 2026. The two ministers covered cooperation in defense, security, trade, investment, healthcare, digital domains, energy, connectivity, space, education, and culture. They reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation and coordination in regional and multilateral fora. Mr. Jaishankar stated the talks were "substantive" and that the meeting followed a four-year gap. The Indonesian side is looking forward to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit, which will provide an opportunity for further deepening cooperation.
