Following the inauguration of D K Shivakumar as Karnataka's chief minister, a panel was formed to investigate two large-scale solid waste management contracts awarded during Siddaramaiah's tenure. The contracts, valued at Rs 39,437 crore, have drawn scrutiny for exceeding cost projections and potentially creating vendor lock-in. Concerns were raised about the long duration of the agreements (30 years) and a clause allowing costs to rise by five percent annually. The panel is tasked with submitting its report within seven days. Shobha Karandlaje, a Union minister, has also expressed concern over the process's transparency and potential for manipulation.
