Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra’s Minister for Water Resources, became the first state government representative to attend the Operation Blue Star anniversary commemoration at the headquarters of Damdami Taksal in Amritsar. He addressed the gathering, calling June 6th a “kaala din” and drawing parallels between the violence inflicted on Sikhs after Indira Gandhi's assassination and the invasion of Ahmed Shah Abdali. Mahajan also highlighted Maharashtra’s commitment to Sikh history with programs commemorating Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and announced new initiatives in Guru Tegh Bahadur’s name. He concluded his address by appealing for help tackling drug abuse among Punjab’s youth.
