A 55-year-old Parsi woman who married a Muslim professor, was cremated in Navsari, Gujarat after her community and his family refused to allow traditional funeral rites. The woman's parents initially opposed the marriage due to fear of excommunication from their community, but eventually agreed. The couple had no children and lived in Navsari, where the woman was not allowed to participate in Parsi social gatherings. Kamal Saiyed, a senior correspondent for The Indian Express, reported on the incident, stating that the woman's family sought help from Sajan Bharwad, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader who arranged for the cremation as per Hindu rituals.
