Tamil Nadu government announced its intention to file a curative petition against the Supreme Court's acquittal of an engineering graduate accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a seven-year-old girl in 2017. The Madras High Court recorded the government's submission after a writ petition was filed by advocate S. Venkatesh, who sought a direction to file the curative petition. The case has been ongoing since 2017 when the accused was sentenced to death by a Chengalpattu court and later confirmed by the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court then acquitted him in October 2025.
