Chola-era Anaimangalam Plates, in possession of Leiden University since 1862, returned to India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten participated in a ceremony on Saturday, May 16, 2026, where Leiden University returned the Anaimangalam Plates to India. The plates, lost around 300 years ago, are considered important historical artifacts that provide insights into the relationship between the Chola and Srivijaya Empires. The plates will be officially transferred to India at a later date.
