SC/ST representation beyond reserved seats still remains limited, show T.N. Assembly election results
The recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election results show that representation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in general constituencies remains limited. P. Viswanathan, a Congress candidate, was the only SC elected from a general constituency, while Mu. Kalanjiyam of the Naam Tamilar Katchi contested in Thousand Lights, Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats and performed strongly in reserved constituencies, winning 23 out of 44 SC-reserved seats. The DMK secured nine seats, while the AIADMK won eight.
