However, the TVK, a smaller party known for its strong performance, saw a decrease in seat numbers compared to previous elections. Senior Minister and DMK general secretary Duraimurugan was surprisingly placed third in Katpadi Assembly constituency behind TVK candidate Dr. M. Sudhakar and AIADMK's V. Ramu.
