Tamil Nadu election 2026: Theni district records 81.51% of votes

A record turnout of 81.51% was recorded in the Theni district during the Assembly elections, with minor issues reported at a few polling stations. Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam cast his vote and predicted a DMK victory. In Gudalur, villagers boycotted voting due to dwelling unit concerns but later agreed to participate after negotiations. The polling process was largely peaceful, with long queues observed in rural areas and the presence of large numbers of women and young voters. The district administration made extensive arrangements for remote polling stations, including a special effort at Vellimalai where five registered voters cast their ballots.
