At least 404 candidates in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have declared serious criminal cases against them, according to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Tamil Nadu Election Watch (TNEW). The report found that 60 out of 170 candidates from the AIADMK, 43 out of 231 candidates from the TVK, and 32 out of 175 candidates from the DMK have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Jayaram Venkatesan, State Coordinator of Arappor Iyakkam, stated that the Supreme Court's directions had no impact on political parties selecting candidates with criminal records. The report also analyzed financial details and gender representation among the candidates.
