At least 404 candidates in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections have declared serious criminal cases against them, according to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Tamil Nadu Election Watch (TNEW). The report analyzed affidavits of 3,992 candidates, revealing that 118 out of 170 from the AIADMK, 92 out of 231 from the TVK, and 70 out of 175 from the DMK have declared such cases. Jayaram Venkatesan, State Coordinator of Arappor Iyakkam, stated that despite Supreme Court directives, political parties continue to nominate candidates with criminal records.
