Anil Akkara, an All India Congress Committee (AICC) member from Kerala, filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct by using Doordarshan for politicking during the Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Assembly elections. He argued that Modi's address on April 18, 2026, concerning women's reservation and delimitation bills, which require constitutional amendments, constituted a misuse of his official position and violated election protocols. Akkara requested legal action against Modi and the Doordarshan authorities for alleged violations of the Representation of the People Act, Prevention of Corruption Act, and other relevant laws.
