M.P. Congress MLA, another man sentenced to three years in jail for fraud
Rajendra Bharti, a Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh, and Raghuvir Sharan Prajapati were sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding a co-operative bank. The court found them guilty of illegally withdrawing interest on a ₹10 lakh fixed deposit (FD) over 13 years and manipulating the FD's term. While Mr. Bharti was granted bail, his mother Savitri Shyam, also an accused, passed away during the trial. Both men have been given 60 days to appeal before a higher court. The verdict poses a risk to Mr. Bharti’s legislative membership as it comes after another MP's membership was invalidated for similar reasons in March.
