DHS funding freeze now longest partial government shutdown in US history | Trump administration

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown, now the longest partial government shutdown in US history, has entered its sixth week. Congress and President Donald Trump have attempted to fund the department, but an impasse over immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) operations remains unresolved. The situation has led to TSA worker shortages, with more than 3,560 employees calling out sick or quitting since the shutdown began. Lawmakers in the House rejected a Senate-passed bill that would have funded DHS, including FEMA and the Coast Guard, but excluded ICE and the US border patrol. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) criticized lawmakers for their inaction, while airline leaders and airport executives urged them to act on existing bipartisan proposals to end the shutdown.
