Tamil Nadu election 2026: AMMK fields former GH Dean for Periyakulam Assembly seat in Theni
K. Kathirkamu, a former MLA and doctor, has been nominated by AMMK as their candidate for the Periyakulam (Reserve) Assembly Constituency in Theni district. Kathirkamu previously won the seat in 2016 while representing the AIADMK but was disqualified in 2018 after switching parties to Mr Dhinakaran's faction. He resigned from his government post as Dean of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Theni, to become an MLA. A rape case against him was registered by the Theni All-Woman Police in 2019 but he denied it as politically motivated.
