As Gor makes first trip as U.S. Special envoy to South Asia, Delhi watches strategic signals closely

Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South Asia, is currently on a six-day regional tour to Sri Lanka and Maldives. This visit comes amidst heightened tensions in West Asia, with the U.S. taking action in the Indian Ocean. The visit has been met with cautious optimism from Sri Lankan officials, who have welcomed engagement without overt alignment. Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor of India, was briefed by Gor before his trip. While no agreements were announced during Gor's visit, it included trips to naval facilities and ships, as well as the Colombo Port.
