Congress takes a dig at the Election Commission of India

The Congress criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of the announcement of Assembly election schedule. Jairam Ramesh, the party's general secretary in charge of communications, stated that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) would be "Modi's Code of Campaigning," filled with defamation, abuses, intimidation, fear-mongering, and spreading lies. He made these remarks on social media platform X. Ramesh further explained that the MCC is expected to come into effect soon, but has been used by the ruling party since 2014 as a tool for "Modi's Code of Campaigning." The MCC, established as conventions during elections, aims to ensure orderly and peaceful campaigning, polling, and counting. It also seeks to prevent abuse of state machinery and finances by the ruling party. The announcement of the Assembly election schedule is expected at 4 p.m. today. Ramesh's comments come amidst frequent use of "G2" as a term to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, both from Gujarat.
