Maharashtra anti-conversion bill: Cabinet clears draft bill; 60-day notice, registration proposed

Maharashtra's cabinet approved a draft anti-conversion bill, making it mandatory to obtain permission from a competent authority before converting religions. The bill requires individuals seeking conversion to provide 60 days' notice and register the conversion with the designated authority within 25 days, or face nullity. The legislation also empowers police to investigate complaints of unlawful conversions. Nitesh Rane, Maharashtra Minister and BJP leader, expressed satisfaction with the cabinet's decision, emphasizing it fulfilled a campaign promise made during the Assembly elections. The bill is expected to be introduced and passed in the legislature soon.
