Nepal election: Voting concludes with preliminary turnout around 60%

Nepal held its first election since September 2025's Gen Z protests, with preliminary estimates suggesting a 60% turnout. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari announced the peaceful conclusion of voting across all 77 districts. Sushila Karki, former Chief Justice and interim Prime Minister, thanked election officials for ensuring the election's timely completion. The election is expected to restore constitutional processes following the protests that led to the fall of K.P. Sharma Oli’s government. The results are anticipated to be released within 24 hours of counting, with a potential hung Parliament and coalition government likely.
