Top maoists underground for three to four decades surrender before Telangana police; only one central committee member active
Four senior leaders of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered to the Telangana police on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The leaders, including Politburo Member Tippiri Thirupati alias Devuji, Central Committee member Malla Raji Reddy, and others, expressed their intent to join mainstream society. The surrender is attributed to ideological differences, internal rifts, shrinking support bases, and disrupted networks within the Maoist ranks. Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy described the development as a "decisive setback" to the organization. The police also reported 544 underground cadres surrendering in 2025 and 2026, with rewards offered for their surrender.
