Shashi Tharoor extolls installation of Rajaji’s statue at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor praised the installation of a statue of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari at Rashtrapati Bhavan, calling it a step towards shedding colonial mindset. President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the bust, which honors Rajaji as the first Indian occupant of the position of Governor-General of India before India became a Republic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the initiative, and BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla noted that Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had expressed his support for the move. However, Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, criticized the move, arguing that it is an attempt to erase colonial heritage.
